England, India match abandoned

Chester-Le-Street, England – The first one-day international between England and India here Saturday was abandoned because of rain with England 27/2 from 7.2 overs chasing a target of 275.
The match was declared a no result.
The hosts were 7.2 overs into their innings – chasing 275 to win from 50 overs when the players were taken off with Jonathan Trott 14 not out and Ian Bell unbeaten on two.
Captain Alastair Cook made just four before he edged a delivery from Praveen Kumar onto his stumps and Craig Kieswetter was leg before to the same bowler for six leaving the bowler with figures of 2/11 from four overs.
India had to bowl at least 20 overs for the contest to be deemed a match.
